I can't find the option to cancel my subscription. I clearly remember unsubscribing, but I'm still being charged.

Hi @lincyang720,

I understand you're facing issues with canceling your GitHub Copilot subscription and are still being charged despite trying to unsubscribe. I'm sorry to hear about your experience, and I'd like to help guide you through the process for canceling your subscription.

How to Cancel Your GitHub Copilot Subscription

Here are the official steps to cancel your GitHub Copilot subscription:

1. In the upper-right corner of any page on GitHub, click your profile photo, then click ⚙️ Settings
2. In the "Access" section of the sidebar, click 💳 Billing & licensing and then Licensing (new platform). Alternatively, click 💳 Billing and plans, then click Plans and usage (original platform)
3. In the "GitHub Copilot" section, select the Manage subscription dropdown on the right and then click Cancel subscription
4. Select Cancel Copilot Pro+/Copilot Pro to confirm that you want to cancel your plan at the end of the current billing cycle

After cancellation, you'll retain access until the end of your billing cycle, then automatically be downgraded to Copilot Free.

If You've Already Tried These Steps

Since you mention you've already tried to unsubscribe but are still being charged, here are some additional steps to take:

1. Check your previous confirmation emails - GitHub sends a confirmation email when you cancel a subscription. This can help verify if the cancellation was processed.

2. Review your billing history - Check if there's any record of the cancellation or if there are unexpected charges by going to:

   • Settings → Billing & licensing → Payment history

3. Support ticket follow-up - I notice you've already submitted support ticket #3349302. You can follow up on this ticket by:

   • Replying to the ticket confirmation email
   • Adding more details about when you attempted to cancel and any confirmation you received

4. Alternative contact methods for urgent resolution:

   • Contact GitHub Support directly through https://support.github.com/
   • Reach out via Twitter/X @githubsupport
   • For billing-specific issues, you can email billing@github.com

Potential Reasons for Continued Billing

Some possible explanations for continued billing after cancelation:

• The cancellation didn't complete due to a technical issue
• You might have multiple subscriptions or accounts with Copilot enabled
• There could be a delay between cancellation and the end of your billing cycle

Best regards,

[ArcticSpaceFox]

an it does not work, it just shows cancelling but you can not click the button

[jeevankoiri10]

This is really missleading, i wanted to cancel 2 months ago, but still I wasn't able to until I find this.

This is really really really really really really really really really really really really really really misleading. ...............

So tired to have this experience from the top company of the world.

[umarsayyad]

yall got to fix this, with competition and a all time high, i am rather use the others instead of this. Lets make cancelling subscriptions easy and not difficult.

[ocornut]

Same issue. I want to get rid of this stupid free thing that keeps spamming me and I can't find a way to remove it.

[SugaComa75]

Billing > Licencing here you should you subscriptions look for a big green upgrade copilot+ button next it is another button manage subscription, click it unsubscribe - open banking app block payments

[lincyang720]

Thank you for your reply. However, I haven't found the entrance to cancel my subscription according to your instructions, and I haven't received any confirmation email regarding the cancellation either. The emergency contact method you provided seems to only direct me back to the loop of submitting tickets rather than solving the problem instantly. I now hope to cancel my subscription quickly instead of dealing with the issue in this endless loop. To resolve this issue as soon as possible, I can send you my billing notification. Could you please help cancel my subscription directly in the backend? This will greatly save my time and energy. Thank you very much for your understanding and assistance! I'm facing the same issue and have received no response from GitHub in months. I canceled in October 2023 and was continued to be charged into 2025. I did not have access to GitHub for the majority of this time and am still trying to request a refund or get some form of response. What can I do to escalate this issue?

[SeanBannister]

Here's the cancellation link for others...
https://github.com/settings/billing/licensing

[coolusername244]

@ocornut I hope this helps?

[ocornut]

I repeat. I DO NOT SEE THIS BUTTON. If you scan this topic other people have the same problem.

Needless to say, clicking the "Copilot Settings" yield zero options for removing it.

[coolusername244]

i dont need to scan the topic - this resolved it for me.

sorry for trying to help haha, good luck!

[ocornut]

Sorry I didn't imply I wasn't appreciative of you trying to help. But this whole topic essentially consists in two sets of people seeing different github interfaces, for whatever reason. And it seem impossible to get an answer from github themselves, presumably because their help AI is designed to make our lives miserable, and their remaining humans were instructed to put their head in the sand and force-feed AI into people.

[ratgr]

I have this same problem and 2 months ago I have tickets for cancelation and no-one is answering

[shinybrightstar]

Hi @lincyang720 👋

Thanks for reaching out. I can see that our support team has removed the payment method from the account and processed a refund. Since the issue has been resolved, I’ll go ahead and close this discussion.

[BinWOLT]

[denyswsu]

literally spent like 15 minutes to find where I can cancel subscription, motherf*ckers

[JoshuamURD]

I experienced the exact same thing

[PandaWood]

I followed the link and still can't find a way to cancel my subscription, I've spent quite a while.

[MiloGoodfellow]

Not seeing a copilot-pro subscription cancellation option. Am I just not subscribed/on trial? Like, I definitely signed up.

[fltfathin]

if it's not clear enough, go to edit and then downgrade to free

[ocornut]

if it's not clear enough, go to edit and then downgrade to free

The list of features provided by GitHub Pro does not list Copilot.
I've been a subscriber to GitHub Pro for years and I need it for other things. I just want to stop seeing "Thank you for renewing your Copilot licence" emails.

[alexymik]

It's now hidden under "Licensing" on your account settings, you can cancel from there

[andyw8]

What an absolute shitshow this is.

When I go to the licensing page I see this:

Which just links to https://github.com/settings/copilot/features with no cancellation option.

[FreakyTurtle]

I do not have a manage subscription button there. I see exactly what @andyw8 sees. This is borderline criminal

[dustinrouillard]

Leave it to microsoft to stop people from canceling... Having the same exact issue, this is crazy bro.

[ocornut]

Same issue here.

[RyanBayne]

This is what I get - they've actually hidden the ability to cancel!

I'm just confirming before I fill out a report to trading standards, not tolerating this from the most expensive agentic AI provider.

[lancesnider]

Did anyone find a solution for the missing button?

[edmondop]

how do I cancel?

[DavidWells]

I also want to cancel. I have submitted a support request about this and have not heard back.

Please advise

[edmondop]

I think I will file with my bank a dispute on the credit card payment at this point

I created a ticket like a year or more about this issue. I explained my whole situation that I unsubscribed from GitHub copilot but was continuously charged for a year… GitHub did not provide a refund.. instead saying that there was a chargeback processing so they could not do anything until it’s resolved. I wait for 6 more months and inquired again and they closed the ticket without any explanation.

Why not just use claude sonnet directly? What's the benefit of using copilot? I don't know why I paid for this subscription.

[ArduinoGetStarted]

After long time finding the way to cancel the subscription of Github Copilot, I succesfully canceled it. What a huge milestone! That is the hardest thing I did in this month.

[ILABUTK]

How? I still cannot find the cancel subscription anywhere!

[ArduinoGetStarted]

Here you are: https://github.com/settings/billing/licensing
but after I submit this message, they may change the location of cancelling. then you may have to find it again. Please remember that, subscribing is very easy, but unsubcribing is not that easy

[ILABUTK]

Thanks. Yep - The manage subscription button is gone! How STUPIDLY evil they are!? I can only see this.

[RyanBayne]

Apparently "Copilot Free" is a $20 monthly subscription now - this really is the most expensive agentic AI 😂

I just got charged via PayPal and spent changes trying to figure out how to cancel.
All the time thinking...I'm sure I cancelled it already.

That's not the worst of it folks, look what happens a little while later...

Next payment due is suddenly empty again.

[RyanBayne]

So I try to email them and...

[kloungos]

After a lot of browsing i found this which led me to a Remove Seat situation that looks like a cancellation

[ArduinoGetStarted]

It is kind of hide and seek game for the cancellation button.
I guess, next people will not see it

[Ranjithksa]

https://github.com/settings/billing/licensing

[ArduinoGetStarted]

I cancelled Jun 17, now I still was charged.
I checked this domain carefully, it is from big tech, not from a scammer.
but I lost my money
