Unofficial Arch Linux packaging for the Command Code desktop app. Repackages the official, version-pinned Debian binary into a pacman-managed package — no Debian tools required.
Package: command-code-desktop-bin · Architecture: x86_64 · Current version: 0.1.31-1
This repository contains packaging files only, not the application source or binaries. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Command Code. This package is not currently published on the AUR.
Requires an Arch Linux system or compatible derivative, base-devel, and git.
Run makepkg as your regular user, not root. Dependency installation and package installation will request sudo access.
sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel git
git clone https://github.com/kadiratesdev/command-code-desktop-bin.git "$HOME/command-code-desktop-bin"
cd "$HOME/command-code-desktop-bin"
# Read PKGBUILD before building: it is executable shell code.
less PKGBUILD
makepkg -siThe build downloads the official .deb from a version-specific GitHub release and verifies its SHA-256 checksum before packaging it. No third-party binary mirror is used.
Launch Command Code from your applications menu, or run:
command-code-desktop- Application:
/opt/Command Code/ - Launcher:
/usr/bin/command-code-desktop - Desktop entry:
/usr/share/applications/command-code.desktop - Icons:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/
The launcher deliberately uses command-code-desktop to avoid colliding with the separate command-code CLI package. This repository does not package that CLI.
The Debian maintainer scripts are not executed. The Chromium sandbox helper is installed without setuid permissions; the application requires working unprivileged user namespaces. Do not disable the sandbox to work around a restrictive system policy.
Updates are manual until the package is available through a package repository. When this repository's package version is updated:
cd "$HOME/command-code-desktop-bin"
git pull --ff-only
# Review the updated recipe before rebuilding.
less PKGBUILD
makepkg -siUse this method to update the pacman-managed installation rather than an application self-updater.
sudo pacman -Rns command-code-desktop-binUser settings and application data are not removed by pacman.
A previous user-local installation is not replaced by this package. A desktop entry at $HOME/.local/share/applications/command-code.desktop takes precedence over the system-wide entry and may still launch the old copy. Back up or rename that entry when switching to the pacman-managed installation. Remove old application files only after verifying the new installation; keep your user data.
Version 0.1.31-1 was built with makepkg on CachyOS x86_64. The package layout, desktop entry, launcher target, sandbox helper permissions, and source checksum were checked. The same upstream binary was also launched successfully in a user-local installation on that system.
A clean-chroot build, namcap checks, and a system-wide installation test have not been performed. Other distributions and hardened user-namespace policies have not been tested.
For a local packaging check:
cd "$HOME/command-code-desktop-bin"
bash -n PKGBUILD
makepkg --printsrcinfo | diff -u .SRCINFO -
makepkg -fWhen updating the package, verify the new upstream release and checksum, update pkgver (reset pkgrel for a new upstream version), regenerate .SRCINFO with makepkg --printsrcinfo > .SRCINFO, and rebuild. Commit only the recipe and documentation, not downloaded or generated archives.
The packaging and documentation in this repository are licensed under MIT.
The upstream application declares Apache-2.0 in its Debian control metadata and application package.json; no separate top-level application license file was found during packaging. Bundled third-party components retain their respective licenses. The packaging license does not relicense the application or its dependencies.
